The VECTO tool: For better environmental impact

In 2019, discover the VECTO tool (Vehicle Energy Consumption Calculation Tool), which will allow you to evaluate the CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of European manufacturers.

What is the origin of this tool?

This project was launched on the initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate.

A new regulation entered into force on 1st January 2019 which requires European manufacturers to make public their greenhouse gas emission calculations, along with their fuel consumption, using this tool.

How does it work?

In practice, any components which have an influence on fuel consumption, such as tyres, aerodynamics, drive chain, weight, etc., will be measured. The results will then be entered into the VECTO calculation tool which will carry out a simulation in order to evaluate CO2 emissions. Even though this will only be a computer simulation, the input data will be obtained through the physical testing of each component.

What does it add?

Declaring these values will give you greater transparency, and help you to compare suitable offers from manufacturers. It will also help you to better understand the effect of different factors on CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
